After a five year hiatus, Sony has just announced a new 4K Blu-ray player, the UBP-X700K in Japan, the US version is the UBP-X700U. The UBP-X700K is an “updated” version of the UBP-X700, which we was released in 2018. This new model doesn’t appear to be a radical departure; it sports an almost identical design, support for both HDR10 (no +) and Dolby Vision HDR, and it features DTS:X and Dolby Atmos audio support. It comes with the same remote as the original version, and supports Bravia Centre Sync audio.
In many ways this new model is a stripped down version of its predecessor. It no longer supports video streaming services, Spotify Connect, and screen mirroring, nor does it have any built-in Wi-Fi connectivity. It does continue to support separate HDMI outputs for video/audio and just audio, a single RCA coaxial audio output and one USB input (front).
The player still maintains the Ethernet socket for wired network connectivity, however, this could just be for firmware updates rather than accessing any streaming services as Sony has to date not confirmed any networking functionality.
