Sonus faber of Italy have announced another addition to their Heritage speaker collection, the Concertino G4, a two-way passive bookshelf loudspeaker. The first 300 pairs of Concertino G4 will be produced as ‘Maestro’ limited editions and will feature a brass plaque on the walnut side panel of the speaker showing its manufacturing number. This compact design promises to “blend heritage and innovation to take audio performance to new heights” by using a mix of new technologies and sustainability.

The design maintains its trapezoidal shape with side walls that are crafted from solid walnut and feature ribbed surfaces, improving structural integrity and rigidity without internal bracing. While the core innovation of the G4 is its central chassis, which is manufactured from cork that, according to Sonus faber, allows for precise modelling, limiting internal resonances and  reducing the need for additional internal damping materials.

The cabinet is further wrapped in a plant-based and sustainable leather alternative produced by ‘Ohoskin’, that covers the cork structure and front baffle.

The vented design uses a 1″ (2.5cm) silk dome tweeter made using the brand’s patented Damped Apex Dome technology that is paired with a 5” (12.7cm) long-throw paper pulp mid/woofer driver with an organic basket and a rear carved walnut reflex duct. The crossover, that uses a Phase-Coherent philosophy, is set to 1,700Hz providing a frequency response claimed to be 60 -25,000 Hz, a nominal impedance of 4 ohms and a sensitivity of  85dB.

Rear panel connectivity consists of two pairs of speaker binding posts allowing for bi-amping.

Finally, the Concertino G4 comes with an optional matching stand designed to complement the speaker’s aesthetic. The stand is 28.9″ (733.8mm) tall and made from an iron steel I beam finished in black with walnut veneer inserts, maintaining proportions and providing a solid industrial look.
