Shanling’s CD80 II Tray-Loading CD Player – Quick Look

Shanling’s latest CD player the CD80 MKII is an update of their earlier CD80 model. This latest design is now built using a Cirrus Logic CS43198 DAC plus a new HD850 draw loading CD mechanism that uses Shanling’s 4th generation CD servo technology. This new model supports gapless playback from both CD’s and USB storage devices using the front panel USB-A socket, with file selection and playback achieved using Shanling’s basic Eddict app. USB files bit rates include up to; 384KHz/32bit and DSD256, with file formats to include; DSD, DXD, APE, FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, AIF, DTS, MP3, WMA, AAC, OGG, MP2, M4A, AC3, OPUS, TAK and CUE. The CD80 MKII also supports Bluetooth 5.0 input using SBC, AAC and LDAC.

Menu and system control comes via a porthole 1.3″ LCD screen and the multi-function volume wheel and buttons, the supplied IR remote and the companion Eddict app.

Supported CD types include; CD, CD-RW and CD-R Audio CD. Headphone support is available using the two front panel sockets, a 3.5mm unbalanced and balanced 4.4mm, that respectively provide 215mW and 850mW into 32 ohms using SG Micro 8262 low noise high output current amplifiers.

Rear panel connectivity includes; a stereo RCA output that can be switched from fixed line-level output to variable level output providing pre-amplifier functionality. Digital output is available on the single SPDIF coaxial RCA connector that supports PCM up to 24bit/192kHz playback (no DSD), supporting external DAC’s, headphone amplifiers and loudspeaker amplifiers.
