Shanling under their sub-brand ONIX have released the Zenith XST20. It is the first of three new products in the ONIX line that will focus on the High-End audiophile market. The XST20 is a traditional SACD/CD transport that does not support streaming, wireless networks or apps, just the pure lossless quality of the discs. The other two models will include a high-end DAC and a Linux-Based Streamer Transport
The Zenith XST20 is a top loader with a large glass disc that acts as a puck and a lid and using an aluminum body crafted by CNC machines that is enhanced with a few golden elements. It offers six digital outputs to include; I2S, coaxial, BNC, AES/EBU, TOSLINK and USB. However, the I2S port is the only one that outputs DSD64 natively. The others do DSD64 DOP, and the USB is PCM only. Single and multi-layer SACDs are supported including MQA-CD’s and gapless playback.
As there is currently a lack of standardization for I2S connectivity to High-End DAC’s, the Zenith XST20 features special FPGA assisted hardware that allows switching between ten I2S pinout modes, significantly expanding its compatibility to virtually all I2S DACs on the market.
Control is via either the front panels 3.4-inch HD color touch screen that provides direct access to a simple UI and core settings, and the transport comes with a premium silver remote control.
Digital only wired output connectivity includes; I2S, BNC coaxial, XLR AES/EBU, optical and RCA coaxial and USB.
