Shanling Launches New SCD3.3 Flagship SACD Player

Physical media just won’t die, thank goodness, and Shanling shows its endearing support with their upcoming release of the flagship SCD3.3 SACD player. This latest flagship design comes with a discrete R2R DAC, 12AT7 tube output stages and Bluetooth input.
The SCD3.3 uses Shanling’s proprietary HD850 laser system that is built into a manual top-loading mechanism that comes with its own CD puck. There is no motorised tray and no servo noise.
Digital conversion is executed by Shanling’s second-generation R2R ladder that is made up of 212 ultra-precision 0.01% resistors. The company claims that this new module offers low noise and improved linearity. The DSD signal can be routed to the internal DAC or output natively over I2S or coaxial for use with external converters.
A unique feature of the analogue output design are the two dual-triode 12AT7 tubes that drive both RCA and balanced XLR sockets, plus the player can operate either as a standard line-out device or a full preamp. Other features include; support for USB drive playback and a Bluetooth 5.0 receiver that supports LDAC, aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SBC, providing additional user flexibility. USB drive format compatibility is extensive and supports up to PCM 768KHz/32 bit and DSD512.
The 10Kg CNC aluminum chassis contains dual low noise 66W transformers dedicated to separate circuit paths that use audiophile grade ELNA, Nichicon and Panasonic capacitors. Low-pass filtering is buffered by OPA 1612 and MUSES8920E operational amplifiers before the DACs final output. Clock stability and low jitter are essential and is handled using two independent sets of oscillators, one for the FPGA and one for the XMOS section. While the I2S output supports ten selectable pinout modes ensures compatibility with many high-end DACs.
Control is available using the front panel 5 inch touchscreen and associated buttons, the supplied remote and companion app.
Finally, rear panel connectivity includes; 1 x USB DAC and 1 x coaxial RCA digital inputs, stereo XLR and RCA analog outputs, with digital outputs available on 1 x USB, 1 x I2S HS-LVDS HDMI and 1 x RCA coaxial.
