Rotels RMB-1585MKII & RMB-1587MKII Multi-Chl Power Amps

Rotel has updated two of its massive home theater multi-channel amplifiers, the 7-channel RMB-1587 and the 5-channel RMB-1585 to a MKII designation. According to Rotel;” the updated MKII design architecture incorporates both circuit and component upgrades in the power supply and amplifier stages to delivering ultra-low distortion, signal isolation and high-gain output power”.

Rotel’s new RMB-1587 MKII 7-channel amplifier is a high powered, high current, Class AB amplifier for multi-channel systems. It delivers 7 channels of Class AB amplification at 155 Watts per channel into 8 ohms and drives 4 ohm speakers with over 250 Watts per channel, all channels driven. The 5 channel RMB-1585MKII also supports Class AB amplification with 210 Watts per channel into 8 ohms and 340 Watts per channel into 4 ohms, again with all channels driven.

The 7-channel RMB-1587 MKII

Both designs use a pair of massive, in-house manufactured toroidal transformers designed to supply stable current to an array of 8 high-efficiency bulk storage capacitors with high quality slit foil capacitors used throughout. Temperature control is optimized by the use of four ‘thermostat-controlled, variable-speed ultra-low-noise fans’. 

Rear panel input connectivity includes both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA gold plated connectors with the matching set of gold plated speaker binding posts. On/off control of the amplifier and connected device(s) is available using the 12VDC trigger I/O, while the fans may be turned off or placed into auto mode depending upon your cooling requirements. Optional rack ears are available for those needing to rack mount this monster.
