The Japanese family-owned and operated audio brand Rotel has added to their Michi flagship series of products with the new top-loader Q5 CD Player, Transport, and DAC. This high-performance CD player features a premium CNC aluminum design CD Mechanism, an advanced ESS ES9028PRO DAC, and versatile connectivity including 32-bit/384k Hz PC-USB and 24-bit/192k Hz coaxial and optical source inputs. The Q5 features a fully balanced, fully differential circuit design having a low noise floor.
The top-loading CD mechanism uses a precision optical laser pickup and is housed in a CNC-machined aluminum chassis with a custom floating spring assembly to reduce unwanted vibrations. Rotel claims this floating spring isolation will ensure the highest level of performance for the Michi Q5.
The Q5’s DAC circuit is built around the eight channel ESS Labs ES9028PRO chip – (32-bit /768kHz), using four channels dedicated to both the left and right audio signal paths that are implemented in fully-differential and fully-balanced modes. Powering the electronics are two in-house manufactured toroidal transformers that provide separate, and isolated digital and analogue voltage supplies reducing noise and interference. With the power for the CD drive motor being further isolated in order to prevent motor noise from affecting the sound quality.
In addition to being a premium CD player, the Q5 features a wide range of digital audio inputs including; PC-USB (up to 32-bit / 384kHz) with MQA/MQA Studio and DSD 4X support, and 24-bit / 192kHz coaxial and optical inputs, making it compatible as a DAC. Plus the Q5 can act as a CD Transport using its coaxial and optical digital outputs.
Rear panel connectivity includes; 1 pair of RCA and XLR analog outputs; 1 x optical and 1 x coaxial digital outputs; 1 x optical, 1 x coaxial and 1 x PC-USB digital inputs; RJ45 and RS232 ports, ext IR remote in and a 12VDC trigger
Control is available using the front panel touch buttons, and the included RR-RH9 IR remote, while the RS232 and Ethernet ports provide integration with popular automation systems. The front panel features a full-color TFT display that showcases CD album artwork, menus and data.
