Record Store Day 2021
The date for Record Store Day 2021 has been confirmed as Saturday 12th June, when independent record shops in the USA and around the world will be stocking another bumper crop of limited edition vinyl.
This now annual celebration of everything vinyl usually takes place on the third Saturday of April each year, but it is hardly surprising to see it scheduled later next year after COVID heavily disrupted the 2020 event.
After 2020’s original date was scrapped due to the worsening global pandemic, the organisers’ first attempt at rescheduling suffered the same fate. It led to Record Store Day 2020 being held over three dates in August, September and October for the first and hopefully the last time.
Record Store Day Black Friday was on November 27th but even though it has come and gone many of those releases are still sitting on store shelves and are available to buy both online and in store. See the original release list here.
The new 12th June date for 2021 is yet another break from the norm, but it is not all that unexpected, hopefully giving labels, stores and customers even more time to prepare. The later date could also help for the safe organization of some life events, depending on the state of the virus and each countries vaccination schedules.
