PS Audio has announced the PMG Signature Series of their high performance audio components. The four models in the series include the; PMG Signature 512 DAC, PMG Signature SACD Transport, PMG Signature Preamplifier, and PMG Signature Phono Preamplifier. All models are priced the same and come in either a silver or black textured finish. Each models curved design comes with a 1.5 inch thick machined aluminum front panel with indicators that act as touch-sensitive controllers, offering simple control of all functions from the intuitive menu system that can also be accessed using the newly-designed remote. All models feature a chassis-within-a-chassis design for maximum isolation, premium internal parts, multi-layer circuit boards, and other refinements.
PMG Signature 512 DAC
This DAC and music streamer does not use a traditional PCM-based architectures or off-the-shelf chip solutions. At the core of the PMG Signature 512 DAC is the new PureStream DSD512 engine that converts all incoming digital audio into a pure 8X-DSD stream, there is no PCM circuitry or decimation filters. The 8X-DSD stream feeds a newly-designed SpectraWave 64-tap sequencer, a digital filter that lowers noise and distortion while perfectly time-aligning the signal. The resulting output then feeds a state-of-the-art, direct-coupled analog output stage.
The 512 incorporates PS Audio’s Digital Lens technology that is said to ensure that incoming digital data is perfectly reorganized and re-clocked before ever reaching the PureStream engine. With a fully-balanced, direct-coupled analog output stage, galvanically isolated inputs, a built-in high-performance music streamer, and precision analog volume control, the PMG Signature 512 can serve as the centerpiece of a no-compromise reference system.
Rear panel analog connectivity includes; stereo XLR and RCA analog outputs, with digital inputs including; 2 x I2S, 1 x BNC and 1 x RCA Coaxial, 1 x optical 1 x XLR, 1 x USB, 1 x RJ45 network, and 2 x 3.5mm DC trigger out.
PMG Signature SACD Transport
Claimed to be PS Audio’s finest digital only optical disc transport in 43 years, the PMG Signature CD/SACD Transport can connect a PS Audio DAC directly to the raw DSD layer of copyright-protected SACD data through I²S.
This new model uses an ultra-low jitter design plus a galvanically isolated output stage. By coupling the output of the drive mechanism to the PMG’s internal Digital Lens by nothing more than a pulse of energy across space, any hints of noise or ground contamination are said to be eliminated.
Rear panel digital output connectivity includes; 2 x balanced XLR, 2 x unbalanced BNC, 1 x RCA coaxial and 1 x I2S.
PMG Signature Preamplifier
This new flagship design is fully balanced from input to output creating a noise and distortion floor of -150dB. The gain stage blends FET (field effect transistor) and BJT (bipolar junction transistor) technologies, combining the best attributes of both devices and is fully complementary from input to output. The gain stage operates in pure Class A and are direct-coupled and servo-controlled.
The latest design is based on a folded cascode topology. According to PS Audio, traditional cascodes use stacked transistors to improve gain and bandwidth, but the folded version “bends” the signal path, allowing high voltage swings, low noise, and wide bandwidth without the instability or harshness of conventional designs.
Housed in a double chassis construction that shields against noise and interference this flagship design is a powered by a PSU that eliminates traditional electrolytic capacitors, replacing them with long-life, sonically superior film capacitors. The results are said to provide lightning-fast transient response, deeper silence, and greater dynamic swings.
Rear panel signal connectivity includes; 4 x XLR and 2 x RCA stereo inputs, with output available on 2 x XLR and 2 x RCA stereo connectors. Two 3.5mm DC trigger outputs are also provided.
PMG Signature Phono Preamplifier
The PMG Signature Phono Preamplifier features a cutting-edge transimpedance input, has a zero-feedback architecture, dual inputs for both moving coil and moving magnet cartridges, and supports remote-controlled loading and gain options.
The fully-discrete FET design provides high headroom, ultra-low noise, and high dynamics and does not use any op-amp’s or integrated circuit in the signal path. Each stage in this design is constructed from hand-selected, discrete high-voltage FETs and BJTs, all operating in pure Class A. The topology is fully complementary and we are told that the direct-coupled design results in excellent headroom, ultra-low noise, and a fast transient response.
The Phono Preamplifier’s features both a transimpedance input that eliminates cartridge loading concerns or for a more traditional approach, the voltage input offers adjustable gain (up to >70dB) and loading options of 47K, 1K, 470, 320, 200, 140, 100, 67, 40, 30, 16 and 12 ohms, all controlled remotely.
Rear panel signal connectivity includes; 1 x XLR and 1 x RCA stereo inputs for both transimpedance and voltage MM and MC connectivity. Stereo output is provided on one pair of XLR and RCA connectors and two 3.5mm DC trigger inputs are also provided.
