Pro-Ject Unveils Amp Box RS2 & Power Box RS2 Amp

Pro-Ject Audio Systems has made two new additions to its RS line, a high performance and compact Class AB amplifier, the Amp Box RS2 and its optional Power Box RS2 Amp external power supply. Both models are available in silver or black aluminum chassis.
The heavy-weight aluminum case assists with heat dissipation and its front panel LED’s in conjunction with two push-buttons indicate; RCA/XLR input selection, bridge mode and active protection for the speakers that include; clipping and thermal and DC protection.
The Amp Box RS2 is a fully discrete Class AB power amplifier whose design uses a reference-grade tube buffer input stage that is intended to add warmth and musicality to the presentation. This low distortion solid-state power stage can deliver; 2 x 80W into 8 ohms with a 1% THD, and 280W into 8 ohms with a 1% THD in bridged mode when acting as a mono block amplifier. The amplifier features a hybrid configuration, utilizing a differential stage with a double triode 6922 (6DJ8) tube for each input. This tube stage is followed by Onsemi 2SA1552T and 2SC4027T bipolar complementary high speed transistors and an output stage that uses a pair of Sanken Electric STD03N and STD03P epitaxial planar Darlington complementary power transistors, that operate in Class AB. The DC output of these direct coupled power amplifiers is maintained at a zero potential by using a DC feedback servo design.
Rear panel connectivity includes; 1 x stereo unbalanced RCA and balanced XLR inputs, two pairs of gold plated 4mm Ø Banana, spade or bare wire speaker connectors, the 40 volt power connector and for remote control, the RS232 pluggable 3-PIN terminal block.
While the included switching power supply will get things rolling and provide very good performance, for those wanting up to 25% more power with enhanced performance, the optional Power Box RS2 Amp is available. This linear power supply upgrade uses a low noise toroidal transformer with internal copper screen, designed to provide cleaner and more stable power that is said to; lower noise and provide improved sound stage and detail resolution. It offers switchable 35V and 45V operation, allowing users to select either; energy efficiency and lower heat (35V) or up to 25% more output power (45V), but with more heat dissipation.
