Pro-Ject have announced the new and affordable Debut EVO2, an updated version of the original Debut introduced in the late 1990’s. This latest design is to replace the Debut Carbon EVO and draws on elements from the Debut PRO design. Its refined, minimalist industrial design benefits from a new cartridge, updated tonearm design, new platter and an improved chassis. It’s available in 10 different finish options, to include; real wood veneer, high gloss; white/black/red and satin; black/white/wine red/fir green/golden yellow and steel blue.
The Debut EVO 2 turntable features a premium 8.6 inch carbon fiber tonearm with a large aluminum bearing construction. The low friction tonearm ABEC 7 rated ball/race bearing provides precise, stable and accurate tracking. The gimbal bearing uses 2 lateral stainless steel tips & thrust pads for smooth motion in the vertical plane, giving the tonearm a high degree of rigidity while keeping the weight low. The one-piece arm and headshell design prevents unwanted resonances and offers a solid physical bond to the cartridge. The new thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) damped counterweight is said to reduce arm-cartridge resonances by as much as 50%. Ensuring optimal cartridge alignment the the tonearm offers azimuth adjustment, plus the usual bias and tracking weight adjustments.
The new, pre-installed high-output (7mV) Pick it moving magnet (MM) EVO cartridge completes the Debut EVO 2 package by complementing the lightweight tonearms performance. Created by Ortofon the cartridge is made from a unique combination of technologies, including Ortofon‘s well known split pole pins. This technique enables the Pick it MM EVO cartridge to maintain a flat frequency response, which is said to be comparable to MC cartridges.
The 11.8 inch (300mm), 3.75lb (1.7Kg)non-magnetic aluminum belt-driven platter has been both precision balanced and features a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) ring inside that helps dampen resonances, and is supported by a stainless steel and brass bushed main bearing. A Record Puck E is available separately that is said to provide extra damping and stability.
The sub-platter is belt driven by an AC motor that has improved vibration and noise isolation and supports switchable 331/3 and 45 RPM speeds. It receives its electronically generated sine-wave signal and speed control from a local precision DC/AC generator that is “remote” powered by a switched mode supply, all ensuring a clean and stable sine wave signal, helping to minimize wow and flutter, which is stated as 0.16% @ 33RPM and 0.14% @ 45RPM.
The void less MDF plinth/chassis sits on three thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) damped & height-adjustable feet helping to further isolate the turntable from structure born vibrations and by using 3 feet levelling the stability on uneven surfaces is easier to optimize, maximizing the performance of the tonearm & cartridge.
