Panasonic UB9000 News Flash: It is strongly rumored that a firmware upgrade is available that enables the UB9000 to play SACD plastic discs.

This is tremendous news for all audiophiles like myself. All we need now is for the palyer to support Hi-Res audio on DVDA. The current audio performance of this player is already technically excellent but if coupled to the ability to play both SACD and DVDA it puts it into the Oppo 205 class of audiophile player. It also provides the advantage over the Oppo 203 and 205 player of correctly mapping 4K UHD to HD. This coupled with its very flexible mapping controls and interface to JVC NX projectors produces a very flexible product.

UHD Blu-Ray for Audiophiles

Designed from the ground up to provide exceptional audio, at audiophile standards, the UB9000 supports 2 channel balanced XLR outputs, separate high performance 192KHz 32 bit audio DAC’s with individual channel power supplies, together with high quality epoxy resin printed circuit boards using audio grade electrolytics and operational amplifiers.

The only other audio standard that I would have liked to have seen supported is MQA (Master Quality Authenticated). Maybe that will become available via a future software upgrade together with DVDA.

The UB9000 is THX certified and provides two HDMI outputs, one for video and one for audio. Additionally it will support streaming applications with support for 4K resolution.

Keep your eyes peeled for a full technical review of this player at Home Theater Hi-Fi.
