Orchard Audio – Starkrimson Mono Ultra Premium LPS Amp

Orchard Audio of Succasunna, NJ, have announced a limited edition version of their Class D Starkrimson Mono Ultra Premium amplifier. The Starkrimson Mono Ultra Premium LPS (linear power supply) amplifier which will be limited to a total of 66 units, (33 pairs).
This limited edition replaces the switched mode supplies(s) with an analog, custom 1000VA toroidal design, with 133,600uF of storage capacitance. According to Orchard Audio; “The Starkrimson® Mono Ultra Premium LPS (linear power supply) amplifier is not just an amplifier; it’s an embodiment of sonic perfection.”
These highly regarded Gallium nitride (GaN) amplifiers are solid state switching amplifiers “Class-D” amplifiers that use GaNFETs (GaN transistors) instead of MOSFETs (silicon transistors). They are said to have the following benefits:
- GaN amps sound less harsh.
- GaN amps have a cleaner, more open high frequency response.
- GaN amps sound more transparent or less “like an amp” which is widely considered to be a very good thing.
- GaN amps have the ability to resolve more sonic detail “high resolution”.
The addition of this low noise toroidal linear power supply to replace the original switched mode power supply is sure to improve what is already is superb sounding amplifier.
