Oppo HDR10+ and DV Passthrough Official Firmware Release
Latest Firmware Update
Oppo have just released the official version of the public Beta test software that added support for;
- HDR10+
- Dolby Vision pass through for the external HDMI input
Loader Version: TF0035
MCU Version: MCU203-01-1118 (UDP-203), MCU205-01-1220 (UDP-205)
Release Notes:
- Added the “HDMI IN BYPASS” mode for Dolby Vision passthrough via HDMI In.
- General fixes and disc compatibility improvements based on recent and upcoming UHD Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted samples.
I have e-mailed Oppo technical support for official confirmation of the HDR10+ support. However, according to a number of Beta testers and forums the omission of HDR10+ in the support notes is just an oversight on Oppos part, and that it IS included in this firmware version. Unfortunately, I have no way to confirm or deny these rumors as I have no HDR10+ discs or compliant displays.
This is the response from Oppo engineering after asking:
Does this latest firmware upgrade dated 8th February 2019 also include HDR10+ support?
Oppo’s response was:
“It does. It was not taken out of the official firmware.
Best Regards,
hello,
what is the HDR to SDR mapping problem ?
best regards,
frans callebaut
If you are converting HDR to SDR the 203 and 205 cannot map the full color gamut of HDR to an SDR signal and limits it to SDR. That is despite the players having the menu option to map HDR to SDR and maintain the REC2020 color space. There is also a rumor that the blacks levels are slightly crushed during this conversion. If you run these players with a display or projector that accepts 4K HDR WCG this issue will be of no concern to you. It is ONLY if you are trying to drive an SDR display device that cannot handle HDR or is not calibrated to do so. If you really have to support this conversion you would be better off buying one of the latest 4K Panasonic players that provide excellent and accurate conversion and adjustments for this process.
Thank you for visiting my site.
hello,
i have a loewe bild 7. will i have the converting problem with this television ?
best regards,
frans callebaut
That TV is a 4K OLED UHD model that supports Dolby Vision and HDCP 2.2.You should have no problems at all with the Oppo UDP203 or UDP 205 (or Panasonic) and it should look great. You DO NOT need the HDR to SDR function and should not use it. Make shure that you buy CERTIFIED 4K HDMI cables, even if they are short.
hello,
excuse me for disturbing you again, but thank you for your quick answers. i still have a problem i seem not to be able to solve. i am 65 years old and have literally 1000’s of vinyl records( 78’s, 45 ‘s and 33’s).
i am searching for a device( not a computer program), but a stand alone unit to remove pops, clicks and noise coming from the analogue master tapes, and surface noise on the records(for example between two tracks).
i have read about the sweetvinyl sugar cube, but 2000 dollars seems too much for me also because it does not remove surface noise.(according to the manufacturer)
is or are there units you can recommend me ? ( i do not have a computer of my own and have no internet in my listening room and i like physical sources; i don’t want or can digitalise my records.
best regards,
frans callebaut
Removal of pops, clicks and surface noise is often accomplished using digitization and edit software on a computer. The only two real time systems I am aware of are SugarCube SC1 and SC2 and CEDAR. I have no experience with either and know of nobody that owns them. You may want to just buy a good quality disc vacuuming system. Remember that the pops and clicks are just dirt in the grooves unless of course the vinyl has been damaged. I own a Nitty Gritty vacuum vinyl cleaner and that has improved surface noise, pops and clicks tremendously on all my LP vinyl and I use Mo-Fi anti-static sleeves for storage after cleaning. The shape and wear of your stylus and of course cartridge design will also effect the amount of vinyl surface noise you get. If you can afford one, an ultra-sonic cleaner will provide you with the best removal of dirt and surface contamination from any vinyl album. Remember that old 78’s often need a different cleaning solution to vinyl albums. You can also use various organic cleaning solutions that will remove stubborn residues. I do not recommend cleaning records by hand without using a vacuum device. It is very easy to leave residues behind when you hand dry the vinyl, something that a vacuum cleaner or ultra-sonic cleaner will not do.
Sorry I cannot recommend a real time electronic product.
