OPPO-Get One Quick Before They Are All Gone!
Based upon this weeks devastating news that OPPO Digtal is to close its doors this year, I needed to get one, as the 205 was always slated to be the 4K player that I was to upgrade to. After searching just about every web site in the galaxy I failed to find a 205 unless I was prepared to pay $3000+ on Ebay. Not happening! I reviewed my options and I am still seriously considering the Panasonic DM UB9000. However, there is no guarantee yet that this will be sold in the States, and it will not be available until fall. So my patience just ran out.
I tried to order the 205 from OPPO’s web site but they are all sold out also. SOLD OUT! They are, however, taking requests for a July/August production run for the 205; but nothing is promised!
In total desperation I purchased an Oppo UDP-203 as these were still available, and signed up for the 205 production run.

UPDATE: As of 6/4/2018 all the 203 players are now sold out. Click here to get in line for the next batch.
To accompany my 203 I also purchased an active 18Gb/s HDMI cable from Monoprice, a SlimRun 50 footer, as my current active copper HDMI cable cannot support 4K. Be warned that this cable from Monoprice DOES NOT support audio return channel, ARC. Click here for my review.
Good luck and happy hunting.

Well now you’ve put a bee in my bonnet for sure. Can you tell me if the 203 does anything better than my 103 – aside from the ability to play 4K DVDs? Will 2K Blu-rays somehow look better on my 4K SONY projector with the 203? Main thing is that I still rent 2K DVDs from Netflix, there is no service I know of that rents 4K DVDs and I don’t plan on purchasing many or any. Trying to justify this purchase.
Its major advantage is that it plays 4K discs and doesn’t need to upscale them like the 103 does for standard Blu-Rays. This will provide better resolution and of course supports the wider color gamut of a 4K disc. It also has the ability to convert HDR to SDR with a level control that can be adjusted to help SDR projectors display HDR content. For flat panel displays it supports Dolby Vision for those that can also support it; no projector can yet support DV. Lastly as it plays 4K, not all 1080P releases carry the immersive sound format that is often found on many 4K releases of the same movie.
