ONKYO Muse Y-40 and Y-50 Streaming Amplifiers – First Look

In its 80th anniversary year, Onkyo, has unveiled the Muse Y-40 and Y-50 Series. A line of compact, high-powered, all-in-one 2-channel Network Integrated Streaming Amplifiers delivering high-fidelity performance and cutting-edge streaming technology. The Muse Series is designed as an entertainment hub for streaming music lovers all within a sleek, modern, and compact design and is available in both silver and black finishes.
Both models feature full digital circuitry and Axign Class D amplifiers with high-current MOSFET transistors. Each model comes with a 5.46-inch color LCD display interface, offering song metadata, an analog-style VU meter, and browsing of streaming services. This smart interface ensures a smooth, enjoyable listening experience for all users.
The Onkyo Muse Y-40 Network Integrated Amplifier features a 5.46-inch color LCD display that provides track information, metadata, and an analog-style VU meter. The design is built around fully digital circuity and an Axign Class D amplifier with high-current MOSFET transistors that deliver 150 watts per channel into 4 ohms.
The built-in streaming platform includes support for; Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Chromecast, and AirPlay 2. Operation is via the two front panel rotary controls and the Onkyo Controller app that allows full control and customization.
Input connectivity includes; 1 x MM phono, 3 x pairs of analog RCA line level, 1 x digital COAX & Optical, 1 x HDMI ARC for video and gaming sound and 1 x front panel USB. Outputs include 1 x RCA pre-out and 1 x 1/4″ front panel headphone jack. With support both WiFi and 1 x Etherent RJ45. Speaker connectivity is provided on a single pair of binding posts.
The Onkyo Muse Series Y-50 Network Integrated Amplifier comes in the same sized chassis and the Y-40 and sports the same 5.46-inch color LCD display that also displays song information and an analog-style VU meter. However, the Y-50 also includes; Onkyo Room EQ built-in room calibration, support for MC cartridges and more power that is again provided by a fully digital circuit and an Axign Class D amplifier with MOSFET output, that now delivers 250 watts per channel into 4 ohms.
Connectivity has also been expanded and includes; 3 x pairs of analog RCA inputs, 1 x COAX and optical digital inputs, 1 x RCA phono stage (MM/MC compatible), and 1 x HDMI/HDMI ARC input with HDMI output for video and gaming audio plus 1 x front panel USB. Outputs include; 1 x RCA pre-out and 1 x 1/4″ front panel headphone jack. It also supports 1 x RJ45 Ethernet and Wi-Fi for streaming playback, plus 1 x RCA subwoofer pre-outs and 1 x pair of upgraded speaker terminals.
Streaming is available from Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Chromecast, and AirPlay 2 with full control and customisation from the Onkyo Controller app and front panel rotary controls.
