Onkyo has unveiled its new Icon Series featuring three models; the Onkyo Icon P-80 Network Preamplifier, Onkyo Icon M-80 Power Amplifier, and Onkyo Icon A-50 Integrated Amplifier. This new Icon Series tries to continue Onkyo’s legacy of “delivering unparalleled audio experiences for audiophiles”.  All three Icon models look sleek and modern, with little retro touches like VU meters. They all come with Onkyo’s patented Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry (DIDRC) technology, which is deigned to reduce noise at higher frequencies, and feature a minimalistic industrial look with a 5mm aluminum front panel, few buttons plus a large volume dial on the P-80 and A-50, and VU meters on the M-80 power amp. All three products will be available in silver or black finishes.

Icon P-80 Network Preamplifier

At the heart of the Icon P-80 network preamplifier is the premium AK4452 DAC capable of 32-bit/768kHz max resolution. The DIDRC technology that reduces high-frequency noise at a high slew rate, is also installed in both the DAC Filter section and Phono stage. Streaming features include AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Bluetooth and wi-fi. Access to a wide range of streaming services and internet radio includes; TIDAL Connect, Spotify Connect, Amazon Music, TuneIn, Qobuz Connect, QQ Music, Google Cast and more. The P-80 is Roon Ready and features Dirac Live Room Correction (basic 20-500Hz), with music playback and source selection via the Onkyo Controller app. Connectivity includes; HDMI ARC input and an MM/MC  phono stage.

Icon M-80 Power Amplifier

The Icon M-80 power amp, employs a symmetrical 3-stage Inverted Darlington Class AB power amplifier claimed to deliver 150 watts per channel at 8 ohms or 200W at 4 ohms. Along with the DIDRC technology, the M-80 features a high current drive with low distortion and a custom “high current power supply to provide dynamic full-range sound”. The M-80 features a fan-less design for quieter operation, extruded aluminum heat sinks, hi-fi grade terminals, quality capacitors and copper bus bar.

Icon A-50 Network Integrated/Streaming Amplifier

The Onkyo Icon A-50 network integrated/streaming amp combines the key features of the P-80 and M-80 designs into one unit, coming with all the streaming features of the P-80 like: Wi-Fi , Airplay 2, Chromecast and Bluetooth. Plus it streams music content from any of the built-in platforms: Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect, Amazon Music, QQ Music, TuneIn, AirPlay 2 and Google Cast. Other features include; HDMI ARC, a MM/MC phono stage, and basic (20-500Hz) Dirac Live Room Correction. It’s Roon Ready and it can be controlled by the Onkyo Controller app. Inside the A-50 you get the same stereo DAC (AK4452) as the P-80, the same DIDRC circuitry and fan-less heatsink design as the rest of the Icon series. It is also powered by a three-stage inverted Darlington Class AB power amplifier, with a claimed 140 watts per channel into 8 ohms or 180W into 4 ohms. Input connectivity supports both analog and digital sources.
