Onix Releases Zenith XMT20 Streaming Transport

Shanling’s subbrand ONIX has released the final member of the Zenith family, the XMT 20 Streaming Transport, completing the line alongside the ONIX XST20 SACD transport and the ONIX XDA20 DAC. Following the style of Zenith line, with an aluminium body crafted by CNC machines to match the ONIX design, a 3.4″ touch screen and traditional golden wheel, with power provided by a 25VA Talema Transformer.

The XMT20 runs on a new Linux-based platform developed in-house and supports; Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect and Roon Ready certification. DLNA and AirPlay 2 cover the remaining options. Local playback, guaranteed gapless, comes via a rear USB port (up to 2TB) and an M.2 NVMe SSD slot on the unit’s underside, with Shanling’s Eddict Controller app handling file management on Android and iOS. Twin KDS crystal oscillators handle clocking and the I2S output uses FPGA assistance to provide ten selectable preconfigured pinout options.

The ONIX XMT20 also comes with their new CD Playback/Ripping system, compatible with basic USB CD drives or the more advanced Shanling CR60 CD Player. This function allows for either direct playback of CD discs or CD ripping into the SSD/USB drive, including full automatic tagging and album art downloading system, all managed through their Eddict Controller app.

Rear panel connectivity provides six digital outputs; 1 x  TOSLINK, 1 x coaxial, 1 x BNC and 1 x AES/EBU (PCM 24-bit/192kHz and DSD64 via DoP), plus 1 x USB and 1 x I2S connections that supports PCM 24-bit/768kHz and native DSD512.
