Naim Audio Uniti Nova PE Streaming Player – Quick Look

UK based Naim Audio have just released their most powerful streaming player to date. The Uniti Nova PE (Power Edition) is a a one-box music-streaming solution that uses Class D amplification modules to provide up to 150 watts of power per channel into 8 ohms. For some purists the change from Naim’s standard use of Class AB amplification to Class D maybe a little off-putting. However, they do have experience with this class of amplification with their Mu-So family and Naim for Bentley range of amplifiers. Naim claiming that this new design; “delivers room-filling audio without compromising on the characteristic Naim sound ” and “is ideal for experiencing punchy sound”.
The app-based streamer is Roon Ready and supports a wide range of streaming options to include; direct access to Tidal Connect, Qobuz, Spotify Connect, Apple Music, various internet radio stations in addition to supporting Chromecast, AirPlay 2, UPnP, aptX HD-enabled Bluetooth, and multiroom capability with Naim streaming devices.
The Nova PE offers a large range of connectivity options for music playback to include;
- Digital source support includes; two optical (up to 24-bit/96kHz), and one coaxial (up to 24-bit/192kHz, DSD 64) inputs, and one each of BNC (up to 24-bit/192kHz, DSD 64) and HDMI ins. There’s also a USB-A input both front and back for attaching external drives.
- Analogue connectivity provides a choice of 2x RCA and 2x 5-pin DIN inputs, plus one set of RCA and 5-pin DIN outputs for bi-amping your speakers or adding a subwoofer. Speaker connectivity is via two pairs of binding posts, plus there is a headphone output for private listening up front.
- Wi-fi is connectivity supports 802.11 b/g/n/ac for direct access to internet radio stations and numerous music streaming services.
Finally, this flexible design is all wrapped up in the familiar brushed aluminum casing with a 5-inch color LCD screen and iconic volume dial. There are several quick-access buttons next to the display, with additional controls found on the included ZigBee remote, which doesn’t require line of sight to work, and/or the Focal & Naim app.
