MoFi Releases MasterDeck

MoFi Electronics has announced the availability of their latest, made in the USA, ‘reference grade’ turntable, the MasterDeck. This latest flagship belt drive turntable was designed by veteran turntable master Allen Perkins, formerly of Spiral Groove, and will reportedly be made in small batches at the MoFi Electronics’ Michigan factory. It will be available in either Black Ash or Walnut finish.

The turntables platter is composed of a 14.35 lb, 1.75-inch-thick hybrid made of aluminum and Delrin. Its spindle turns on an “Encapsulated Spiral Groove” inverted bearing and is belt-driven by an optically-regulated three-phase brushless DC motor, which itself is sealed in its own isolation container helping to reduce vibration transfer. Speeds available include; 33, 45 and 78 RPM that can each be fine tuned, with the actual speed displayed by a small 4 digit display mounted in the top of the plinth just to the LHS of the the platter.

Speed control, trim adjustment and power on/off controls are located at the front LHS of the plinth.

Keeping the turntable and arm assembly well isolated form structure born vibrations, the plinth is composed of a constrained layer damped wood and aluminum construction that is supported by a solid wood frame that sits on Harmonic Resolution Systems (HRS) Isolation Feet, that are engineered to provide 5.5 degrees of freedom, these feet effectively ‘float’ the turntable, offering exceptional isolation from environmental vibrations and feedback. The whole assembly weighing in at 37.4lbs. No dustcover is included.

The included tonearm (no cartridge) is an all new, dual-pivot, 10-inch design, that is made from carbon fiber and includes a removable headshell. Full adjustments are available to optimize any cartridge’s performance and include; azimuth, height/vertical tracking angle (VTA), overhang and anti-skate. Tonearm premium cabling is supplied by Cardas Audio.
