McIntosh Laboratory, Inc., the luxury audio brand that was recently acquired by Bose, has unveiled its MSA5500 Streaming Stereo Integrated Amplifier. The new MSA5500 is all solid-state and designed to integrate with a variety of spaces, homes and setups. Featuring plenty of functionality in a compact form factor, the MSA5500 is aimed at smaller living spaces, but still with the iconic McIntosh look.

The MSA5500 Streaming Integrated Amplifier supports many popular streaming platforms to include; Apple AirPlay 2, Chromecast, Spotify Connect, and TIDAL Connect, plus HiFi Lossless Quality. Its Bluetooth 5.0 compatibility is enhanced with AAC, Qualcomm aptX HD, and aptX Adaptive for high-resolution, seamless wireless playback. Additionally, the amplifier is Roon Ready, allowing easy integration with Roon’s music discovery and management software. Plus there are a wide array of analog (5 RCA/1 XLR) and digital (2 coax, 2 optical, 1 HDMI ARC, 1 USB and 1 network) inputs, including phono(MM) and HDMI ARC for integration with TV’s.

The digital inputs support high resolution digital audio playback; the USB input supports native playback of DSD512 and DXD up to 384KHz, while the coax and optical inputs can decode digital music up to 24-bit/192KHz.

Digital sources are treated to an audiophile-grade, Quad Balanced, 8-channel, 32-bit DAC with a wide dynamic range and low distortion. While its Bluetooth streaming supports; AAC, Qualcomm aptX HD and Qualcomm aptX Adaptive audio codecs for hi-res wireless streaming from smartphones, tablets and computers. Being Roon Ready certified, makes it an ideal device for use with Roon’s music management and discovery software.

Inside the MSA5500 its power amplifiers can provide up to 100W per channel into 8Ω or 160W per channel into 4Ω using two pairs of gold plated speaker binding posts. Other McIntosh technologies include; McIntosh Power Guard, Sentry Monitor, a Home Theater PassThru feature and McIntosh’s Headphone Crossfeed Director (HXD), providing immersive sound for private listening. Pre-out and amp-in (RCA unbalanced) are also provided for external use of additional power amplifiers or the separate use of the MSA5500 internal amplifier.
