Luxman America, based in Ballston Spa, NY, was founded in 2017 as a subsidiary of Luxman Corporation of Yokohama, Japan. Luxman was among the world’s first consumer electronics companies being founded in 1925. The company is synonymous with timeless styling, exquisite fit and finish, and above all, uncompromising sound quality.

Despite the continuing fall in the popularity of plastic compared to vinyl, Luxman is still rocking with the CD player having just announced its new D-07X digital player which is set to replace the discontinued D-06u. It sits between the new D-03X and new flagship D-10X but inherits much of the flagships technology to include:

  • A pair of ROHM Semiconductor MUS-IC BD34301EKV DAC’s that are configured as dual mono and provide up to 130dB of SNR
  • A low-noise clocking system comprising; “two high-precision, low-jitter, ultra-low phase noise modules”
  • The LxDTM-i disc drive system whose aluminum disc tray and steel top/side plates help isolate the mechanism against unwanted vibrations

In addition to playing SACD’s and CD’s it supports; MQA-CDs, MQA files, up to 32-bit/768 kHz PCM and 22.4 MHz DSD, conventional USB and Bulk PET file transfer USB sources.

The D-07X is Luxman’s second player to incorporate the MUS-IC BD34301EKV digital-to-analog converters that are deployed one per channel (dual mono). Using a 32-bit ΔΣ (Delta-Sigma) design, the converters achieve an outstanding signal-to-noise ratio of -130 dB and a distortion of -115 dB (THD+N). Supporting these two exceptional DAC’s are two high-precision, low-jitter, ultra-low phase noise modules that are said to; “reduce noise near the oscillation frequency to a minimum“.

The player offers a wide range of signal connectivity to include; balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA stereo analog out, coaxial and digital out, coaxial and digital in plus USB. Control is avilable via the front panel tactile buttons or rear panel trigger and Luxman link to other Luxman products.

The USB input in conjunction with the free LUXMAN Audio Player computer software supports a wide range of file formats. The software is avilable for Mac OS and Windows PCs and decodes WAV, FLAC, MP3, DSF, DSDIFF, ALAC and AIFF files. The USB input accepts PCM signals up to 768 kHz sampling and up to 32-bit quantizing plus DSD signals at up to 22.4 MHz/1-bit sampling. Coaxial and optical inputs accommodate PCM digital audio up to 192 kHz/24 bits.

The D-07X also supports full decoding of Master Quality Authenticated (MQA) files and MQA CDs. MQA audio files up to 24-bit are supported via USB, optical and coaxial inputs.

Besides supporting conventional fixed bitrate, “isochronous” file transfers, the USB input supports two modes of Bulk Pure Enhanced Technology® (Bulk Pet®) high-resolution audio file transfer. According to Luxman; “This optimizes data packaging and delivery to the converter, easing the processing load for both the host CPU and the device CPU. This in turn reduces the workload between reading and reproduction, enhancing playback stability and improving sound quality.”

The MUS-IC digital-to-analog converters are complemented by analog output circuitry of equally high quality. The differential current outputs of the pair of MUS-IC DAC chips are converted to a voltage by a new system and that voltage is then handed off to four discrete amplifier modules. The output buffer stage applies a selectable 2-mode, discrete component, analog, FIR low-pass filter to remove unwanted high-frequency noise and which also provides a suitable low impedance output.

The same level of care and attention is also applied to many other features of the player, to include:

  • An oversized power supply with large filter capacitors and an OI-core transformer
  • The chassis is carefully shielded against electromagnetic interference.
  • Feet that minimize shelf-borne vibrations
  • The PCB has heavy copper foil signal traces and gold-plated connections to minimize stray capacitance.
  • The RCA output jacks apply gold plating over brass.
  • Neutrik terminals provide the balanced XLR outputs
  • Back panel AC power socket has been engineered to support heavy duty power cables

Cosmetically the D-07X digital players clean and understated design is finished in brushed aluminum, the same as found on the supplied IR remote. The players fluorescent display offering a 4x zoom for easy reading at the listening position.
