Luphonic Labs of Germany opened its doors in 2020. It is a manufacture of high quality turntables, a tonearm and accessories for the home audio market.
Its latest turntable is the belt driven R2 that adopts many of the design principles from its brothers. It comes with their proprietary K2 gimbal-mounted 9.5-inch tonearm all mounted within a sub-chassis that is manufactured from two layers of polished, white solid surface material that are separated by a layer of vibration-damping cellular rubber.
The 24mm thick solid platter is belt driven by a synchronous motor with integrated motor control that was developed in-house. The control system is said to individually “adapt” both the amplitude and the phase shift of the two sine waves that drive the built-in motor. This ensures an extremely quiet and vibration-free drive providing both 33 1/3 and 45 revolutions per minute.
The turntable weighs in at 10Kg and is composed of two layers of moderate density, solid composite material that are separated by a layer of damping cellular rubber. The arm and platter bearing sit on the top layer while the motor is located in the bottom layer, minimizing vibration transmission. The resulting chassis is then sat atop of height-adjustable feet.
Contained within the chassis is an LED speed display that uses contactless detection of the selected speed. The display also shows additional information such as software status, speed correction and phase position.
Finally, the R2 comes with a pre-mounted Luphonic K2 9.5 inch tonearm. The K2 is a gimbal-mounted tonearm with a carbon arm tube and fixed headshell. It supports a wide range of adjustments to include; VTA, VTF, azimuth and antiskating.
