Linn 119 And 150 Loudspeakers – Quick Look

Linn has unveiled its latest two passive loudspeaker models, the Linn 119 bookshelf/compact and 150 floorstander, together with a newly refined version of the Linn Selekt DSM: Classic Hub, a network music player with a wide range of multimedia inputs and options. The loudspeakers are offered in a selection of finishes: Satin Black, White, Walnut, or Oak, while the DSM is available in either a textured black or flat silver finish. Optional black or silver pedestal stands are available for the 119 bookshelf speakers.
These new speaker ranges are described by Linn to deliver; “an engaging performance – with energy, refinement, neutrality, and fun”. Individual driver binding post pairs are available for both models, two pairs for the 119 and three pairs for the 150. This allows for bi/tri wiring or bi/tri-amping using external crossovers.
Both models boast “premium drive units” that promise excellent linear performance and excursion capability with the drive units mounted at the very front of the baffle, with no grille, supporting the units excursion and minimizing occlusion. Crossovers are of a low-order design and use only high-quality components.
The 119 is rear-ported for extended bass performance while the 150 features a downwards-firing port. The 119 port can be “bypassed” when using a Linn DSM network music player, by using the digitally applied bass augmentation filter that is said to provide “faster” and tighter bass.
The 119 and 150 speakers also have the option to upgrade to Linn’s Exakt technology, which supports precise digital crossover and amplification configurations. Their two and three way designs make them ideally suited for the Exakt system, which can be installed within a Linn Selekt DSM.
Select DSM: Classic Hub
The newly refined Selekt DSM: Classic Hub maintains the modular, cartridge-based approach of its predecessor and sports a refined chassis and metalwork that features steel feet and smart buttons, while the fascia houses a large-format display. The case is enhanced by an array of stainless-steel smart buttons and a cut glass central control dial with hidden LEDs that shine through to indicate volume. New features include; an integrated headphone amplifier with a 1/4-inch jack, and dedicated RCA output for subwoofer integration.
A broad range of connectivity supports its high-performance, integrated, analogue-to-digital conversion (ADC), from turntables to CD players, and its various digital connections allow connection to video streaming devices, games consoles, TV’s and Blu-ray players. Inputs include; Ethernet, HDMI ARC, Toslink SPDIF (configurable in/out), USB Type-B (Class 2), Line Level Phono (RCA) and MM and MC Phono (RCA). While outputs include; HDMI 2.0 (optional upgrade), Exakt Link, SPDIF (configurable in/out), RCA Subwoofer Out and 1/4″ headphone Jack.
Unused bays within the Selekt DSM support its expansion with the addition of more cartridge amplifiers, DAC modules taking advantage of Linn’s various flagship DAC technologies and the Surround Sound with DSP and HDMI switching modules. The DSM also includes Linn’s Space Optimization for room equalization.
