LG Discontinues All UHD Blu-ray and Blu-ray Players

LG Electronics hasn’t launched a new optical disc payer since 2018 and following in the footsteps of both Oppo (2018) and Samsung (2019), has just announced that it is discontinuing all Blu-ray players, including the UBK80 and UBK90 UHD Blu-ray players, with remaining units only available while stocks last. Its fair to say that these players were not at the top of the popularity table but this announcement is still another “nail-in-the-coffin” for physical media.
However, a light at the end of the tunnel still glimmers as it would appear that LG have told sources that they are leaving the door open for a return if demand picks up.
For now, a few old models remain available in regions such as America and Europe, but only until inventory runs out.
So we are now left to wonder how many of the other remaining optical disc (Blu-ray) player manufacturers like Sony, Panasonic, Magnatar and Reavon will follow in these footsteps.
Hopefully the demand will now become more focused on the remaining manufacturers keeping them in the business of optical disc player manufacturing, or many of us will be “screwed”.
