LEAK Announces TruStream Streaming DAC

LEAK has announced the TruStream DAC, expanding their product line to join the recently released; Stereo 130 and Stereo 230 integrated amplifiers, the CDT CD transport and the Sandwich loudspeaker. Its retro-inspired design aesthetics emulate the rest of the range having a walnut wood-veneered cabinet over an aluminium chassis allowing the Truestream to slot visually into an existing LEAK setup.
At the core of the LEAK TruStream is a customised streaming platform developed in collaboration with Silent Angel. The system uses ARM Cortex-A72 and Cortex-A53 multi-core processors and operates through a dedicated mobile app for iOS and Android devices. Streaming service integration includes; Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect, Spotify Connect, TuneIn, Apple AirPlay 2 and DLNA/UPnP, allowing playback from network storage such as NAS drives. Network streaming is handled by dual-band Wi-Fi or Gigabit Ethernet. The unit is certified Roon Ready and supports the RAAT protocol for use within Roon music management systems.
According to LEAK, the TruStream uses a Noratel toroidal transformer with dedicated supplies for the XMOS chip, MCU and DAC stage. That DAC is built around a stereo 32bit ESS ES9038Q2M chip that is complemented by ESS’s HyperStream II architecture and ‘Time Domain Jitter Eliminator’ technologies for reducing timing inaccuracies and improving sonic fidelity. Post-DAC filtering is provided by a Class A filter design. High-resolution audio support includes PCM playback up to 32-bit/768kHz and native DSD up to DSD512 (22.5MHz). The streamer supports a wide range of audio formats including; FLAC, ALAC, WAV, AIFF, APE and CUE, along with DSF and DIFF for native DSD playback. Lossy formats including; MP3, WMA, AAC and OGG are also supported.
Connectivity includes dual-band Wi-Fi and 1 x Gigabit Ethernet RJ45 for network streaming, alongside 1 x USB-C for PC or Mac connection. Other rear panel connectivity includes; 1 x stereo RCA & XLR analogue outputs, 1 x optical and coaxial S/PDIF digital outputs, 2 x USB-A ports allow connection of USB storage devices and can also be used as digital outputs to an external DAC. There is also a 12VDC trigger I/O and the front panel supports a 6.35mm headphone output.
