Kii Audio Announce Kii SEVEN Wireless Music System

Soon to be released by Germany’s Kii Audio is a new active loudspeaker called SEVEN. According to Kii the SEVEN is termed a “wireless music system” because it is a complete hi-fi system with nothing more to add, including; amplification, 24bit/192kHz DAC and a network streamer.
Each SEVEN speaker weighs in at 30lbs (14kg) containing a 6.5″ bass driver, a 5″ midrange driver and a custom 1″ custom waveguide tweeter, all powered by a total of 600 watts. The resulting frequency response is claimed to be: -3dB @ 40Hz, 100Hz-10kHz: +/- 0.5dB and 10kHz – 20kHz: +/- 1dB.
Unlike many traditional speakers, these new units are made to deliberately reduce the impact of the surrounding room acoustics on the listeners experience. This is achieved by reducing the amount of off-axis energy that is directed to the front and side walls thereby reducing unwanted reflections. Kii calls this technique “Active Wave Filtering”, it is achieved by using a digital signal processor (DSP) to both split the music’s frequency range between the drivers while at the same time ensuring a cardioid dispersion down to the lower midrange/upper bass frequencies. That same DSP also provides time alignment for the driver signals and tone control adjustment. According to the press release;
“Instead of just splitting the spectrum into bands, as is done with traditional crossover filters, Kii Audio’s Active Wave Focusing filters force the specially positioned drive units in the Kii SEVEN to create a completely coherent wave front, that is only emitted towards the listener. By utilising Kii Audio’s unique Active Wave Focusing Technology, the Kii SEVEN ensures perfect time alignment over the full frequency spectrum.”
Capable of delivering hi-res audio up to 24-bit/192kHz and with support for Apple AirPlay 2 and Roon Ready Wi-Fi, network and Bluetooth streaming, the SEVEN seamlessly integrates with mobile devices making it easy to access its range of useful features. Also coming soon is support for; TIDAL Connect, Spotify Connect and Qobuz Connect. The Kii HOME App (arriving shortly) will support streaming playlists to controlling playback in multiple rooms, whether you have one Kii SEVEN or more, allowing you to be easily able to customize various settings for up to twelve separate zones in your home or multiple speakers in your studio.
Inputs include; balanced analog XLR, TRS, digital AES/EBU, a KiiLink/KiiControl connector plus support for Wifi, Bluetooth and networked Dante Audio. No mention as to the availability and pricing of the stands yet.
