JVC has expanded its D-ILA native 4K projector range with two new lower cost models, the DLA-NZ500 (RS1200) and DLA-NZ700 (RS2200) that join the current DLA-NZ900 (RS4200) and DLA-NZ800 (RS3200). Both provide premium specs and a much more compact build than previous similar models. Of the two newcomers, only the NZ700/RS2200 uses the latest Gen-3 D-ILA panels.

These two latest models are claimed to be the “world’s smallest native 4K projectors” with a sleek new design that’s flatter and more compact than the outgoing DLA-N5 and DLA-NZ7 models that they will replace. According to JVC, everything from the optical unit and lens to the circuit board has been redesigned with JVC claiming that it has reduced the overall volume of the projector by some 35 per cent compared to the DLA-NZ7.

Only the DLA-NZ700 (RS2200) deploys the latest third generation of JVC’s 0.69-inch native 4K D-ILA panels which delivers enhanced screen uniformity. This is the same display technology that is also found in the much more expensive DLA-NZ900 (RS4200) and DLA-NZ800 (RS3200) models. Both new models are also equipped with JVC’s high-efficiency BLU-Escent laser light source which it claims will deliver “exceptional contrast, superior resolution, and high brightness”. With the DLA-NZ700 (RS2200) achieving a native contrast of  80,000:1, 2,300-lumens and an expected laser life expectancy of 20,000 hours. The DLA-NZ500 (RS1200) with its Gen-2 panels achieving; a native contrast of 40,000:1, 2,000-lumens and an expected laser life expectancy of 20,000 hours.

Both models use the new motorized lens drivers, which allow for fully electric lens adjustments including zoom, focus and shift and the air intake has been reversed in order for the hot air not to interfere with the image.

According to JVC they also support Gen 2 Frame Adapt HDR which is “equivalent to the higher-end models” plus the Vivid mode is again available which boosts color saturation on SDR content. While videophiles now get both HDR10+ and Filmaker modes.
