GIK Acoustics Adds Q11D Diffuser – Quick Look

US based GIK Acoustics are well established in the field of acoustic energy control products and have just expanded their range of one-dimensional quadratic residue diffusers with the addition of the Q11D diffuser. Built on the established Q7D design it incorporates an 11-root well sequence that provides effective diffusion from 550Hz to 7KHz. It is available in two sizes with a Beech, Walnut, Black or White finish.
The Q11D is a precision-cut, 11-root one-dimensional quadratic diffuser that is said to “add rich spatial depth and clarity to any critical audio environment as part of a complete treatment strategy”. It is slightly wider than the Q7D but sharing the same height, the Q11D features narrower wells for a voicing slightly higher in the midrange, while visually complementing the Q7D for modular arrays.

According to GIK designer Mike Major, “Quadratic diffusors are the gold standard when it comes to predictable, consistent 1D diffusion. These are the right device when you need to maintain as much mid and high frequency decay in a space, while still providing control over reflections and flutter. The Q11 is a higher frequency diffusor than a Q7d with more complexity due to the higher number of wells. It has scattering effects down to 573Hz, with even diffusion up to 3,909Hz. This type of quadratic diffusion excels in large spaces, live rooms, and auditoria where a smooth, even midrange decay time is desired.”

This design is perfect for multiple positions, such as rear-wall diffusion in mix, mastering, or listening rooms; behind dipole or open-baffle speakers; across the front wall or rear side walls of two-channel or surround systems; or in live rooms for percussion and acoustic-instrument tracking.

The Q11D is manufactured from CNC-cut wood laminates and available in both standard (60x116x16cm) and Demi (60x58x16cm) sizes. The Demi version of the Q11D is a half-height model and is designed for installations with lower ceilings or for use in interleaved two-dimensional scattering designs.

EDITORS NOTE:
Having now moved back home to the UK I no-longer own the above referenced HT room, hence no current vinyl or plastic reviews. However, I am currently awaiting for my new home to be built in Cheshire, and will be adding a more; “user and family friendly” 7.4 HT room – no height channels for me. The room will be based on a 83″ flat panel OLED LG display with a mix of Bowers and Wilkins (front), Genelec (surrounds) and SVS (subwoofer) speakers. The AV processor and front three channel bi-amplification will be handled by Marantz, all supported by DIRAC BC+ART software. Vinyl playback will be provided by either a Linn LP12/Thorens TD 1600, a Hana ML MC cartridge and Musical Fidelity phono amp. Plastic playback will be via my faithful OPPO 205 and a new Magnetar UDP800 MKII MR disc spinner.
Stand-by for more updates later this year as the room takes shape.
Greetings and welcome back to Blighty,
I am looking forward to hearing about your new media room and equipment notifications,
Hi Michael,
I will miss my US HT room, but building an equivalent here is just too expensive on top of the new house. So I have opted to use the new houses formal lounge (17′ x 12′) as a music/HT room that can “double” as a sitting area. It will be a lot of fun building it and with the availability of the latest DIRAC processing and a small amount of “tasteful” treatment I am hopeful that I will get a similar acoustic performance, especially at the low end. Time will tell.
Thank you for popping by.
Regards
Paul
