Focal Introduces Aria Evo X Loudspeakers – Quick Look

Focal is a French high-end manufacturer of audio equipment who specialize in speaker drivers and high-fidelity loudspeakers. This new range of Aria speakers is an upgrade to the existing Aria 900 series that were launched in 2013. The Aria Evo X series is composed of five new models; one compact bookshelf model (Aria Evo X N°1); three slender floorstanding loudspeakers (N°2, N°3, N°4) and one additional model for a Home Cinema configuration (Aria Evo X Center), each sharing the French company’s magnesium-aluminum inverted dome tweeter and waveguide. These five models use revamped technologies, have new finishes and just like the original Aria 900 loudspeaker line, Aria Evo X has been designed as an affordable HiFi and Home Cinema option.
This new range uses their iconic “signature flax cone” for both the midrange and bass speaker drivers. The surround on the midrange is equipped with Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) technology to stabilize how the surround behaves and reduce distortion, the ‘M’-shaped inverted dome TAM tweeter is claimed to support frequencies up to 30KHz, the bass unit magnet has been upgraded to provide more bass impact, while the crossovers has been redesigned and uses upgraded components.
- The No. 1 standmount is a two-way bass-reflex design using; 1×6.5″ (16.5cm) Flax bass/midrange with a TMD surround Aluminum/Magnesium ‘M’-shaped inverted dome TAM tweeter. Frequency response (+/-3dB) 55Hz – 30kHz.
- The No. 2 floorstander is a three-way bass-reflex design that marries; 2×6.5″ (16.5cm) Flax bass, 1×6.5″ (16.5cm) Flax midrange and a TMD surround Aluminum/Magnesium ‘M’-shaped inverted dome TAM tweeter. Frequency response (+/-3dB) 45Hz – 30kHz.
- The No. 3 then adds a third 16cm bass driver, delivering; 3×6.5″ (16.5cm) Flax bass, 1×6.5″ (16.5cm) Flax midrange and a TMD surround Aluminum/Magnesium ‘M’-shaped inverted dome TAM tweeter. Frequency response (+/-3dB) 39Hz – 30kHz.
- The No. 4 three-way bass-reflex model uses; 2×8″ (21cm) Flax bass, 1×6.5″ (16.5cm) Flax midrange and a TMD surround Aluminum/Magnesium ‘M’-shaped inverted dome TAM tweeter in a larger cabinet. Frequency response (+/-3dB) 37Hz – 30kHz.
- The center channel is a dual rear ported design made up of 2 x 6.5″ (16.5cm) Flax bass/midrange plus a TMD surround Aluminum/Magnesium ‘M’-shaped inverted dome TAM tweeter. Frequency response (+/-3dB) 57Hz – 30kHz.
All the above speakers are bass-reflex designs and all are available in; Black High Gloss, Prime Walnut and a Moss Green finishes. An optional black stand, Aria S900, with glass base is available for the No1 model.
