FiiO has announced the launch of the SP5 active speaker. The SP5 is designed for desktop and nearfield applications, and intended for use in home studios or as part of a compact HiFi setup. This Flagship Bookshelf Active Speaker follows the same exterior design as the SP3 and features an aluminum die-cast cabinet.
Signal processing is handled in the ‘right hand’ speaker with speaker channels being reversible using that speakers rear left/right toggle switch. Signal drive to the ‘left hand’ speaker is available using the analog RCA or digital RJ45 signal links and each SP5 speaker has its own external 120watt power supply. This dual power supply arrangement ensures maximum stable power delivery to the left and right channels, reducing the risk of crosstalk and interference, helping to provide a stable image.

Each speaker has a two built-in power amplifiers that provide 60 watts to the 5.25-inch Rohacell-cone woofer and 20 watts to the 1-inch silk dome tweeter. Rohacell is a lightweight, rigid material often found in loudspeaker cones. The tweeter includes a rear cavity and internal magnet structure.
Tonal balance may be adjusted using the three-band tone control system that supports dual-frequency bass extension and treble adjustment. Plus, for those using the FiiO Control App the user has access to a 10-band PEQ. Volume control is handled using a front-mounted electronic encoder knob, that provides stepless adjustment, with each input having its own independent volume memory, and the active input displayed using its RGB ring. Control is also available using the supplied IR remote.
The SP5 supports Bluetooth 5.1 audio using codecs such as; LDAC / aptX Adaptive / SBC and AAC.

Connectivity options include; analog RCA, 3.5mm AUX and balanced XLR/1/4″ inputs, a USB Type-C digital input and a left mono RCA out. The trigger input provides automatic power-on with connected devices. Back panel controls include bass/low bass and treble level switches and left/right assignment and ground lift switches. An RJ45 digital link is also available to feed the second speaker.
