FiiO has just announced the S15, a low-profile full-width streaming DAC with no headphone amplifier, a custom Android OS and a range of various installable apps. It arrives with a 7.8″ horizontally oriented color touchscreen driven by a customized version of Android 12 running on a Snapdragon 660 chip with 4GB RAM and 64GB ROM. The unit is Roon Ready, supports Spotify Connect and Apple AirPlay 2, together with the apps for Qobuz, Deezer, Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon HD and more. Its 11lb (5Kg) all metal chassis is available in either a silver or black finish.

Internally the digital, analog and power supply are contained on their own isolated PCB’s helping to reduce noise. There is a low-noise toroidal linear power supply that uses four Elna 4,700uF audio capacitors to create two independent power sources for the analog and digital sections. The analog supplies then being applied to numerous high-speed, high-precision low-dropout (LDO) regulators for secondary regulation, ensuring a consistent and stable low noise supply to the DAC’s and LPF’s.

The DAC is AKM’s new flagship decoder that gives the filtering and delta-sigma modulation to the AK4191 chip leaving the analogue conversion to a physically separate AK4499EX chip. This separation is likely to help improve HF noise isolation. The DAC analog signal path is a fully balanced design from the DAC & LPF to the output employing low noise TI OPA1612 precision op-amps. Analog gain is offered as variable or fixed, with coaxial and AES outputs isolated using transformers. The Qualcomm Bluetooth chip, the QCC5125, helps provide bi-directional communication with AAC/SBC/aptX/aptX HD and LDAC support. Passive components include ELNA and WIMA capacitors plus high-precision metal film resistors. Underneath the chassis, the F15 accommodates a 2TB M.2 SSD for self-contained file streaming, plus there are SD card and USB-A slots for local file access.

Other features include; large customizable color display, VU meter display, dual-screen display feature with companion app, Bluetooth remote, dual-knob front panel control each with a virtual key and colored status illumination, HDMI ARC support for easy TV integration- supports up to 192KHz/24bit and 10 band PEQ equalizer.
