Eversolo Launches DAC-Z10 – Flagship DAC

Eversolo has introduced the DAC-Z10, a flagship digital-to-analogue converter, preamplifier and headphone amplifier that uses an advanced fully-balanced dual-mono AKM DAC architecture. On paper, the DAC-Z10’s specifications are very impressive having a THD+N of 0.00008% and a dynamic range of 130 dB.

The designs architecture is what Eversolo calls Fully Isolated Architecture (FIA), it physically separates the digital and analogue domains throughout minimizing interference. Three independent analog toroidal power supplies support the left and right channels, maintaining noise levels as low as 42 μV. This complete channel isolation extends all the way through to the DAC stage, where two discrete pairs of 1 x AK4191 and 1 x AK4499 converters handle each channel.

Eversolo has done away with digital volume control and instead deployed a true dual R2R relay controlled volume control network for each channel maintaining perfect phase alignment and full-resolution across the entire volume range. The fully balanced analogue preamplifier section offers both XLR and RCA inputs and outputs while the DAC-Z10 can operate as a complete digital front end and control centre, removing the need for a separate preamplifier.

Keeping things nice and stable is their Oven Controlled Crystal Oscillator (OCXO) clock system, temperature-stabilised to eliminate drift. Phase Locked-Loop (PLL) jitter suppression and FPGA-based clock reconstruction is claimed by Eversolo to hit femtosecond precision. There are also 10MHz and 25MHz external clock inputs with both 50Ω and 75Ω impedance options for those of you using an external master clock.
Headphones are amply catered for with an amplifier section that provides 1W into both 16 Ohm and 32 Ohm loads from its 6.35mm socket. Headphone impedance is automatically detected and gain adjusted accordingly. Note that despite all that balanced circuitry, there’s no 4-pin XLR or 4.4mm Pentaconn for your balanced cables, just a single ended output.

Control is available using the front panel 8.8-inch IPS touchscreen that is mounted behind electromagnetic shielding and volume control, both supported within an aluminium chassis, the supplied remote or via the Eversolo Control app that mirrors the entire interface via smartphone or tablet. The interface enables users to select inputs, adjust settings, and choose from a variety of VU meter and spectrum display designs. Even the volume knobs LED colour ring is customisable.

Connectivity supports the usual array of analog and digital inputs and outputs. USB handles DSD512 and PCM up to 768 kHz/32-bit, dual coaxial, dual optical, AES/EBU and IIS inputs are fully isolated to prevent ground-loop interference, while the IIS input supports eight different pin configuration modes. HDMI ARC and eARC makes it easy to integrate into home cinema setups, with Bluetooth streaming managed by Qualcomm’s QCC5125 module. Analog I/O is supported on both stereo RCA and XLR connectors. There are two BNC connectors for an external master clock and a 3.5mm 12vdc trigger I/O. Headphone connectivity is only available via the 6.35mm front panel output.
