The Tennessee-based Emotiva Audio Corporation is now shipping their new BasX TA2+ preamp/DAC/tuner with integrated amplifier. This new model is an update to the now discontinued BasX TA2 and is designed to be the heart of a two-channel or 2.1 system.

The new generation BasX TA2+ builds on the original TA2 by adding several key upgrades to include:

  • Balanced XLR analog inputs and outputs
  • Balanced subwoofer output
  • HDMI ARC for easier integration with TVs and improved audio performance
  • USB C connectivity for current computers and many portable devices
  • Improved analog bass management for more precise 2.1 system integration
  • Quieter MM/MC phono stage
  • Metal remote control

The TA2+ incorporates an analog preamp stage with outputs for external amplification, an Analog Devices AD1955 DAC supporting up to 24-bit/192 kHz audio, a high current Class A/B amplifier section, streaming over Bluetooth and a Tuner. The Class A/B power amplifiers still provide 135 watts RMS / channel; into 8 Ohms, both channels driven, 20 Hz – 20 kHz, THD < 0.02% but now with 250 watts RMS / channel into 4 Ohms, both channels driven, at 1 kHz, THD < 1%. Power is provided by a large analogue toroidal power supply. Control is available using the front panel rotary controls, two buttons and VFD display and the supplied compact, all metal, full-function infrared remote control.

The expanded rear panel connectivity now includes; 3 x pairs of unbalanced RCA stereo analog line level inputs, 1 x pair of balanced XLR stereo analog line level inputs, and 1 x pair of stereo phono inputs, switchable between moving magnet and moving coil (with selectable loading). Digital inputs include 1 x digital coax (S/PDIF), 2 x digital optical Toslink stereo, 1 x Bluetooth receiver, 1 x HDMI ARC input and 1 x USB C. Outputs include; 1 x RCA/XLR sub with selectable low pass filtering, 1 x RCA and XLR pre-out with selectable high-pass filter, 1 x stereo RCA plus 1 x Sub RCA HT bypass, 2 x pairs of speaker binding posts and 1 x 3mm 12VDC trigger I/O. Front panel connectivity supports 1 x 1/8” (3.5mm) stereo headphone output.
