Denon and Marantz AV Receivers HDMI 2.1 Bug Permanently Fixed

It’s been a while coming, but wait no longer, you can now go out and buy a Denon or Marantz AV Receiver with the full confidence that it will not have the reported 4K 120Hz HDMI bug issue.

Forbes and Stereonet have verified that Sound United, the manufacturer of both the the Denon and Marantz receiver lines, has confirmed that all current production models leaving their factories since May 2021 contain new HDMI 2.1 chips and are free of the original HDMI 2.1 bug.

If you are wondering how to tell if the model you buy is a post May 2021 “bug free” model, then according to Sound United’s Product Manager, these new “bug free” receivers may be easily identified as their serial numbers end as follows: xxxxxxx700001.

If you missed the original HDMI 2.1 bug stories check out my links at the bottom of this post. In a nutshell the HDMI 2.1 bug stopped a large number of 2020/2021 AVR’s from various brands to include; Denon, Marantz and Yamaha from passing 4K signals at 120Hz refresh rates when looped through the offending AVR’s new 8K HDMI 2.1 inputs. While Sound United offered a fix for existing receivers, a free external HDMI box – the SPK618, others like Yamaha have assured their purchasers that they will provide retrofittable HDMI 2.1 boards to fix the bug issue.

The originally affected Denon and Marantz models were:

  • Denon
    • AVR-A110
    • AVR-X6700H
    • AVR-X4700H
    • AVR-X3700H
    • AVR-X2700H
    • AVR-S960H
  • Marantz
    • AV7706
    • SR8015
    • SR7015
    • SR6015
    • SR5015
    • NR1711

All the above receivers together with the 8K upgrade kits for the Denon AVC-X8500H and Marantz AV8805 AVR are now being manufactured using the latest bug-free HDMI 2.1 chips. Also of note is that both the Denon AVC-X8500HA and Marantz AV8805A AVR’s also contain the new HDMI 2.1 chip set as denoted by the (A).
