DALI Announces SONIK Loudspeaker Series

The Danish manufacturer DALI has announced the SONIK Series, a seven-model loudspeaker range for both music and film. Every speaker in the series incorporates DALI’s patented SMC magnet system, delivering ultra-low distortion and together with the Clarity Cone drivers inherited from their flagship KORE series. The range includes; two standmount models, three floorstanders, plus on-wall and cinema-specific versions. The smallest is the SONIK 1, joined by fellow standmounter and slightly larger SONIK 3. The three floorstanders in increasing size are the; the SONIK 5, SONIK 7 and flagship SONIK 9. For cinema lovers the SONIK On-Wall wall-mounted speaker and SONIK Cinema center speaker provide support for surround sound arrangements. This latest range is available in four high-grade vinyl finishes: Black Ash, Walnut, Natural Oak and White.
These new models use CNC-machined MDF cabinets with rigid internal bracing and separate chambers for bass drivers, providing less resonance and improved timing. Magnetic grilles attach to the front baffles.
Bass/Mid, Soft Dome and Magnetostatic Drivers
All models incorporate what DALI terms Soft Magnetic Material Composite (SMC) technology, a magnet system technology that’s trickled down from the company’s EPICON range. The company claims this hybrid iron/SMC pole-piece design reduces third-order harmonic distortion. Other DALI technologies used in these new designs include; an ultra-light 29mm soft dome tweeter, Dali Hybrid Tweeter System that uses a 17 x 45mm planar magnetostatic tweeter for improved dispersion, low-loss bass and midrange, 5¼-inch (13cm) and 7-inch (17.8cm) drivers, both of which feature Dali’s Clarity Cone membrane structure, while dual flare bass reflex ports are optimised for timing, low turbulence and clean low-frequency extension.
SONIK 1 and 3
The SONIK 1 and 3 two-way standmounts feature the new 29mm soft dome tweeter paired with an aluminium faceplate and either a 5.25″ (SONIK 1) or 7″ (SONIK 3) mid/bass driver. The SONIK 1 (51Hz-26KHz ±3dB, 86dB, 6 Ohms) replaces bass extension for placement flexibility, while the SONIK 3 (47Hz-26KHz ±3dB, 87dB, 6 Ohms) has improved bass reach. These drivers cone material being a blend of paper and wood which DALI refers to as a “Clarity Cone”.
SONIK 5, 7 and 9
The three floorstanders continue the ranges expansion. The smaller SONIK 5 (39Hz-26KHz ±3dB, 88dB, 6 Ohms) has dual 5.25″ drivers. The SONIK 7 (36Hz-30KHz ±3dB, 88.5dB, 6 Ohms) steps up to a pair of 7″ bass drivers. While both the 7 and flagship SONIK 9 use a hybrid tweeter system that combines the 29mm dome with a 17×45mm planar magnetostatic tweeter. The flagship SONIK 9 (34Hz-30KHz ±3dB, 90dB, 4 Ohms) comes with three 7″ bass drivers.
SONIK On-Wall and Cinema
Home theater and surround sound is catered for by the; SONIK ON-WALL (55Hz-26KHz ±3dB, 87dB, 6 Ohms) a slim, discreet design. Coming with a 29mm soft dome tweeter and 5¼-inch wood fibre SMC and Clarity Cone woofer that is loaded with a down-firing bass port. While the SONIC CINEMA (46Hz-26KHz ±3dB, 87.5dB, 6 Ohms) features a 29mm ultra-light soft dome tweeter and dual 5¼ inch SMC Clarity Cone woofers loaded with dual front firing bass ports.
