Cayin Announces All-Tube Soul 170C & 170P Amplifiers

Cayin of China have announced a new high-end tube pre/power amplifier combo as part of their Soul series, the 170C pre-amplifier and 170P power amplifier. These all-tube amplifiers come with  front panels are made of brushed matte black aluminium and the side panels of North American walnut.

The Soul 170C pre-amplifier features a fully symmetrical circuit design coming with a compliment of 8 selected and matched tubes, each performing its own dedicated function. The output tubes can be switched between high and low feedback, allowing for convenient listening comparisons from the listening position using the included remote control. Internally the 170C features point-to-point wiring, silver-plated signal cables and and a motorised ALPS volume control. The included infrared remote control gives users access to all functions; input and NFB selection and volume adjustment from the listing position, with front panel LED’s indicating the various selections. Power is provided from an in-house designed and hand-wound power transformer.

Rear panel connectivity includes five stereo line-level inputs: 4 x unbalanced RCA and 1 x balanced XLR plus 1 x XLR and 1 x RCA stereo outputs.

The Soul 170P power amplifier weighs in at 37.5Kg (82.67lbs) supporting four TUNG-SOL KT170 tubes in a push-pull configuration that provides 32 wpc in Triode mode or 60 wpc in Ultralinear mode, both modes operate in Class A. Running the Soul 170P as a monoblock provides 64w in Triode mode and 120w in Ultralinear mode. For ease of use the tubes are ‘dynamically’ auto-biased and the tubes life is said to be extended by their “soft-start function and protection circuitry”.

Users also have the opportunity to select between either high or low negative feedback thereby adjusting the amplifiers sonic signature. Power is supplied from a customized hand-wounded toroidal power transformer, the internals again feature point-to-point wiring using silver-plated signal cables and an EI wide-band output transformer supports the power output stage.

Rear panel connectivity includes; 1 x stereo XLR and RCA inputs and 2 x three speaker binding posts to support either 4 ohm or 8 ohm speakers.
