Cambridge Audio announces its first-ever active wireless stereo speaker systems, the compact L/R S, the mid-sized L/R M and flagship L/R X. These three new standmount models combine amplification, streaming and loudspeaker technology into a self-contained stereo pair.

These new models will be available in six colours to include; blue, green, orange, black, white, and a real walnut veneer.

LR/M and LR/X Internal Construction
The larger M and X models feature Cambridge’s StreamMagic Gen 4 platform, bringing Wi-Fi or Ethernet streaming from Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, Qobuz Connect, Amazon Music, Deezer, Roon Ready, UPnP and Internet Radio directly into the loudspeakers, plus multi-room support via Google Cast and Apple AirPlay 2. DynamEQ processing is available on all three models together with a seven band equaliser, speaker crossover is handled by DSP, while the M and X models also include an MM phono stage.

Bass/Mid and Torus HF Drivers
Both the L/R X and L/R M models use a 2.5-way acoustic configuration that integrates a new 28mm Torus tweeter developed by Cambridge Audio. The flagship L/R X is the largest model, using twin 5-inch woofers reinforced with dual 6-inch force-cancelling passive radiators, while the L/R M supports dual smaller woofers and passive radiators.

The L/R S is the smallest of the range and has no StreamMagic or phono stage. The driver complement includes a 21mm aluminium tweeter and a single 3″ woofer per loudspeaker, with 50 watts of Class D amplification per loudspeaker. The loudspeakers link is via a wired connection only.
The design is just a straightforward active loudspeaker with Bluetooth aptX HD as its primary input, RCA line-level analogue, TOSLINK and USB for computer support. A sub-woofer out is provided for those needing a little more bass.

The L/R M scales things up using a 28mm Torus tweeter, now paired with dual 4″ woofers and dual 4.75″ side-mounted passive radiators. Total Class D amplification rises to 300 watts (150 watts per loudspeaker).
You now get the StreamMagic Gen 4 platform with all its streaming services, a moving magnet phono stage, and connectivity now adds HDMI eARC, Bluetooth (SBC and AAC ), TOSLINK, USB inputs for computers and storage devices, plus the subwoofer output. Loudspeaker-to-loudspeaker connection is now only USB-C only (no wireless WiSA option).

Each flagship L/R X loudspeaker houses Cambridge’s new 28mm Torus tweeter paired with dual 5″ woofers. The second woofer fires downward from the loudspeaker’s base. Both work alongside twin 6″ passive radiators (one per side) tuned to 38Hz to extend bass response down to the mid-30Hz range. Power is a plenty with 800 watts of Class D amplification, split as 400 watts per loudspeaker.
Besides StreamMagic, the L/R X offers HDMI eARC for TV hookups, the aforementioned phono stage, Bluetooth (SBC and AAC ), line-level analogue, TOSLINK and USB inputs for computers and storage devices, plus a subwoofer output for those wanting more low-end extension. The left and right loudspeakers communicate via either USB-C cable or wireless WiSA, both running at 24-bit/96KHz.
Finally, each of the three models ships with a Bluetooth LE remote for input switching and EQ preset selection.
