The High End German HiFi brand Burmester has released the latest addition to its Classic Line, the Burmester 232 Integrated Amplifier. The Burmester 232 is built with a modular architecture, allowing users to configure it according to their needs. Two optional modules are available; a DAC module for high-resolution digital playback and a phono module optimized for moving coil (MC) cartridges.

Besides introducing a new thermally optimized radial heatsink design in the 232, that improves heat dissipation and maintains optimal transistor performance, the minimalist controls and a high-resolution mirrored glass display includes a HaptiControl rotary knob, a multi-functional control element providing precise, adaptive user feedback. This control concept combines the all-new Burmester Conduct App for iOS and Android that allows intuitive remote control of the amplifier, offering features such as volume adjustment, source switching, and input customization. Users can also operate the 232 via its front panel touch display using on-device operation (HMI), its remote control or via serial control.

Besides providing various analog connections the 232 supports Tidal Connect, Spotify Connect, and AirPlay, with future updates to add Roon Ready functionality, USB playback, and Internet Radio Search. It also features various wired digital connections enabling simplified integration with digital sources.

The amplifier stages of the 232 are fully dual-mono constructed, starting from the secondary windings of the transformer, minimizing electrical and magnetic coupling/crosstalk between the channels. The Class AB power amplifiers can deliver up to 150 watts rms/chl. into 4 ohms, with a THD+N at 1 kHz (50 W / 4 Ohm) of <0.0048 %.

Wired rear panel full connectivity includes; 1 x balanced XLR stereo phono MC input, 2 x balanced XLR stereo analog line-level inputs and 3 x USB, 1 x HDMI, 1 x coaxial, 1 x optical (TOSLINK) and 1 x AES EBU digital inputs. Wired outputs include; 1 x balanced XLR stereo analog line-level and mono subwoofer balanced XLRs, plus 1 x digital coaxial and optical (TOSLINK), 2 x pairs speaker binding posts and 1 x 6.3mm headphone out. There is one RJ45 for Ethernet connectivity and control is available using the RS232 DB9 and remote I/O. Note: None of the digital I/O connections are active without the DAC module and there are no phono inputs without the phono module.

Finally, besides the use of custom designed software, the specially designed digital-to-analog converter module transforms the 232 into a high-performance digital integrated amplifier. With the new DAC module supporting up to 768 KHz/32-bit resolution, processing digital signals from various streaming services such as Tidal Connect and Spotify Connect. While the newly developed phono module for moving coil (MC) cartridge systems is based on the phono signal processing from the Burmester Reference Preamplifier 077 and their Phono Preamplifier 100. The module supports six selectable loads, variable gain and includes a defeatable subsonic filter.
