Audio-Technica Announces AT-LP8X Turntable

Audio-Technica has expanded its line of direct-drive turntables with the semi-automatic AT-LP8X, featuring a newly designed tonearm lift that automatically raises the tonearm at the end of a record side and stops the motor if desired, – it does not return to the arm-rest. This latest design is only available in an all-black finish.
Its newly designed low-torque, direct-drive DC servo motor is sensor monitored to ensure accurate rotational speeds of 33 1/3, 45 and 78 RPM and is powered by a newly designed internal switching power supply, which is said to have been optimized for audio performance. The motor drives a 25 mm rubber-damped, anti-resonance, die-cast aluminum platter that comes with a 2.5 mm rubber mat.
The motor and platter assemblies are housed within a box plinth constructed of 16 mm MDF (medium density fiberboard) and equipped with height-adjustable feet that help protect against unwanted structure borne noise and vibration.
Mounted on the plinth is the J-shaped tonearm with a newly designed detachable headshell (AT-LT10) and fitted with the AT-VM95e (dual) moving magnet (MM) cartridge having a 0.3 x 0.7 mil elliptical stylus. The configuration comes factory pre-aligned. The arm provides adjustments to support; various cartridge weights, bias, tracking weight, zenith and arm height (VTA/Azimuth).
Rear connections include; stereo phono level RCA’s, grounding lug, AC IEC power with switch and auto-stop defeat switch.
