ATC Launches SCM20ASL 2-Way Active Standmount Speakers

ATC have just announced their active flagship 2-way SCM20ASL stand-mount loudspeaker that is based on ATC’s 50th-anniversary Limited Edition design. The 2-way SCM20ASL standmount cabinet design features ATC’s in-house drive units with matched amplification. It is available in a large range of standard and custom colors to include; Black ash (natural only), Burr Magnolia, Cherry, European Walnut, Oak, Pippy Oak, Rosewood, Satin Black, Satin White and Walnut in both natural and gloss finishes with a removable grille covered in black acoustically transparent cloth. This model is also available in passive and tower versions
The 20 liter cabinet is constructed to be heavy and inert with a combination of bracing for stiffness and damping to suppress resonance. Bitumastic damping panels are deployed at critical positions to minimize cabinet coloration. It houses a proprietary 6 inch (150mm) Super Linear Mid/Bass driver that employs a large (3 inch/75mm) voice coil and short-coil (long-gap) motor assembly featuring ATC’s ‘SL’ motor technology, said to reduce distortion from the upper bass into the midrange. It is paired with ATC’s 1inch (25mm) ‘S-Spec’ soft-dome tweeter, which marries a dual suspension design with a high-energy 2.1-tesla motor. The mid/bass driver is fed by 200 watts (8Ω) while the tweeter receives 50 watts (8Ω), both from Class AB MOSFET amplifiers, creating a claimed acoustical frequency response of 55Hz-25KHz (-6dB).
Crossover between the two drivers occurs at 2.2KHz, and is achieved using an active analogue 2nd-order Linkwitz-Riley filter operating at line-level. An all-pass filter is included to “optimize the phase response” through the crossover region, that is said to improve tonal balance and imaging.
The rear panel supports; 1 x balanced XLR input and controls for input sensitivity and a low-frequency shelf cut/boost control.
