The Norwegian brand Arendal Sound 1961 Loudspeaker Series has returned to production after a two-year hiatus. The 1961 Series is ideal for smaller spaces and lower budgets and includes the following models:
-
1961 Tower – Sealed/vented 2.5-way floor-standing design
-
1961 Monitor and Center – Sealed 2-way designs
-
1961 Bookshelf and Height – Sealed 2-way designs
-
1961 Surround – Sealed TriAxial design for multichannel sound
-
1961 Subwoofer 1S – sealed design
-
1961 Subwoofer 1V – vented design
All models are available in a black or white matte finish with all passive models using the same tweeter and mid/bass units. The 28mm soft dome tweeter is adapted from the larger and more expensive 1723 Series that according to Arendal uses a custom waveguide ensuring precise sound dispersion and reduced distortion, resulting in “clear, consistent audio performance across the entire room, not just the sweet spot”. The mid/bass drivers use their proprietary 5.5” long-fiber pulp cone drivers engineered with effective damping properties to prevent coloration and ensure natural sound reproduction. With CNC-milled vented motor structures, these drivers provide superior airflow, reducing thermal compression and the inclusion of copper shorting rings are said to improve frequency bandwidth and reduce distortion.

Incorporating two side mounted 3″ dipole full-range drivers working in harmony with the front-firing 2-way mid/bass and tweeter system.
- 1961 Subwoofers

Arendal 1961 Subwoofer 1V and 1961 Subwoofer 1S
The active subwoofers both use a 12.2″ driver featuring a glass-fiber reinforced cone with self-damping properties. Its CNC-milled vented motor structure optimizes airflow, reducing thermal buildup and ensuring consistent performance during high-power playback. The innovative airflow venting beneath the dust cap and spider is said to reduce thermal compression and prevents asymmetric compliance. Power is provided by the same Avalanche 550 IQ amplifier that provides 550Watts RMS to both the smaller sealed 1S and ported 1V. They are equipped with a high-resolution 1.8” LCD display, 3-band parametric EQ, low-pass filters, and subsonic filters. Advanced safety features and intelligent DSP ensure reliable performance.
Finally, all cabinets are constructed from high density fiberboard (HDF) and come with magnetic grill covers. All passive models feature feature premium-grade connectors, the tower comes with a spike kit, while subwoofers come with anti-vibration puck feet.
