Adam Audio D3V Active Bookshelf Speakers – Quick Look

Adam Audio recently announced the D3V desktop audio system. A pair of small two-way active loudspeakers which employ a hand made 1.5″ D-ART tweeter, 3.5″ long-throw mid/bass driver and a pair of 3.5″ side-firing passive radiators. According to Adam Audio, this cost effective, small design, can dig down to 48Hz (-3db). Simply add a PC, Mac, iPad or any digital source, or a turntable with line-level out or analogue equivalent and you are ready to go. Finishes include black or white.
The design is active with one amplifier per driver; 70 watts RMS for the mid/bass drivers, 30 watts RMS for the tweeters. Only the primary loudspeaker is connected to wall power as all the four power amplifiers are contained within the primary loudspeaker which hands off the amplified signal to the secondary loudspeaker over the provided 4-pole 2m link cable.
Driver crossover is accomplished in a DSP that also supports the rear panel user-switchable EQ dip-switch settings designed to partially compensate for corner, wall and desktop placement as well as level of room treatment.
Control is available using the primary speakers front panel volume knob that doubles as a function control using a press action to provide; mute, standby, input select, channel swap and firmware update mode.
Rear panel primary speaker signal connectivity includes; a pair of 48kHz-digitised balanced analog TRS sockets and a single USB-C input that connects directly to the internal DSP and DAC. The primary front panel also supports a 3.5mm headphone socket whose volume is also controlled by the front knob. The secondary speaker rear panel just contains a 4-pole speaker connection.
Finally, the in-built desktop stands allow the D3V to be tilted backwards according to your preference but they can be detached giving access to the 3/8″ holes on the underside of each speaker for mounting to speaker stands.
